CONFERENCE: Conferences and Courses

Future conferences

I am now in the final stages of analysing my data from the second and third portions of my PhD research.  And this couldn't be happening soon enough, as I'm preparing for two conferences in the second half of the year.  Again, I will be returning to the Institute of Australian Geographers conference, this time in Melbourne.  I am also very excited at having a paper accepted for presentation at the annual Royal Geographical Society conference in London, UK.

Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) - Statistical Learning

I have had my first experience with a 'MOOC' - a new phenomenon of online learning, centred around university-level courses that are delivered free online to anyone who wishes to participate.  My course was delivered by Stanford Online, and included 10 weeks of video tutorials, quizzes and private reading.  The course was challenging and provided me with a sound theoretical basis for many statistical procedures (i.e. it was a great refresher opportunity!).  I would recommend these courses to others seeking to expand their knowledge in a peripheral area of study.
